Vegetation Fire Causes Evacuation Warnings North Of Jurupa Valley
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Evacuation warnings were issued for an area north of Jurupa Valley on Tuesday afternoon as a vegetation fire quickly spread, prompting firefighters to respond with ground and air resources.
Firefighters Battle Blaze
The fire, dubbed the “Limonite Fire,” was reported just before 2 p.m. near Limonite Avenue and Pyrite Street. According to the Riverside County Fire Department (RCFD), the fire spread rapidly, fanned by strong winds.
“The fire is moving quickly and is fueled by dry vegetation,” said RCFD Spokesperson Larry Kurtz. “We have multiple crews on scene working to contain the blaze.”
Air tankers and helicopters were called in to drop retardant and water on the fire, while firefighters on the ground worked to establish containment lines.
Evacuations Ordered
As the fire grew, evacuation warnings were issued for an area north of Limonite Avenue, including the communities of El Sobrante and Mission Grove. Residents were advised to leave their homes immediately and head to designated evacuation centers.
“We understand this is a stressful situation for residents,” said Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco. “We encourage everyone to follow the evacuation orders and stay out of the area.”
Cause and Damage
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries or structural damage have been reported at this time.
Road Closures and Impacts
Several roads in the area have been closed due to the fire. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
The Limonite Fire has also impacted air quality in the surrounding area. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has issued an air quality advisory for western Riverside County.
Ongoing Efforts
Firefighters are continuing to battle the Limonite Fire, with containment efforts underway. The RCFD estimates that full containment could take several days.
Residents who have been evacuated are encouraged to stay informed about the latest developments through local news and social media. Evacuation orders will be lifted when it is safe to return.
