The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) played to a 2-2 draw with England on Saturday at Wembley Stadium. Alyssa Thompson and Trinity Rodman scored for the USWNT, while Lauren James and Alessia Russo found the net for England.
While the USWNT showed some promising signs in attack, they struggled to control the game in midfield. England dominated possession in the first half and created several chances. The USWNT defense also looked vulnerable at times, particularly on the flanks.
The USWNT will next face Spain on Tuesday at the Estadio Nuevo Colombino in Huelva. Spain is ranked eighth in the FIFA World Rankings, so it will be another tough test for the Americans.
“I’m proud of the way we fought back tonight,” said USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “We made some mistakes, but we also showed great character and determination.”
“It was a good result against a very strong England team,” said Girma. “We created a lot of chances, and we could have scored more goals. But overall, we’re happy with the draw.”
