“It’s an incredible opportunity,” said Leavitt. “The Territorial Cup is one of the most storied rivalries in college football, so it’s a privilege to be a part of it. I’m embracing the moment and looking forward to the challenge.”
Leavitt’s veteran presence brings both experience and wisdom to the team. Having previously navigated the intensity of the rivalry, he understands the importance of staying focused and composed in the face of adversity.
The Sun Devils’ preparation for the Territorial Cup has been meticulous. Coach Herm Edwards has emphasized the need for attention to detail and execution on both sides of the ball.
“We’re approaching this game with the same intensity and preparation we would any other,” said Edwards. “But we recognize that there’s an added level of emotion and passion when you’re playing in a rivalry like this.”
The Territorial Cup has a rich history dating back to 1899. The rivalry trophy, a wooden barrel filled with saguaro cactus wine, has been awarded to the victor since 1935.
Arizona State currently holds an all-time record of 52-44-5 against Arizona, but the Wildcats have won three of the last four matchups, including a 38-20 victory in 2021.
The Territorial Cup will take place on November 26th at Sun Devil Stadium. With both teams entering the game with a 3-8 record, the contest holds immense bragging rights for the state of Arizona.
Leavitt and the Sun Devils are determined to reclaim the Territorial Cup and end their season on a positive note.
“We know what’s at stake,” said Leavitt. “We’re ready to give it our all and represent Arizona State University with pride and determination.”
