A Look Back at Coach Cal’s 15 Seasons with Kentucky Basketball
After 15 seasons, John Calipari’s tenure as head coach of Kentucky Basketball has come to an end. Here’s a look back at some of his most notable accomplishments during his time in Lexington.
National Championships (2012, 2015)
Calipari led Kentucky to two national championships in 2012 and 2015. The 2012 title was the program’s eighth overall, and the 2015 title was its ninth.
Final Fours (8)
In addition to his two national championships, Calipari also led Kentucky to seven other Final Fours, including trips to the title game in 2014 and 2017.
Regular Season Success
Calipari’s Kentucky teams were also dominant in the regular season. He led the Wildcats to 10 Southeastern Conference (SEC) regular season championships and was named SEC Coach of the Year five times.
Player Development
One of the hallmarks of Calipari’s tenure at Kentucky was his ability to develop players. He coached 22 NBA Draft lottery picks, including Anthony Davis, John Wall, and DeMarcus Cousins.
The Future
Calipari’s departure from Kentucky marks the end of an era for the program. It remains to be seen who will replace him as head coach, but the Wildcats will undoubtedly be looking to build on the success they achieved under Calipari.
